The Crime Prevention and Community Relations Unit provides the Buena Park Community with outstanding programs such as Neighborhood Watch, home and business security inspections, Halloween safety, police station tours, and emergency preparedness. This unit is also largely responsible for the success of our Department’s annual Open House.  The Crime Prevention Unit is heavily involved with the Neighborhood Improvement Task Force (NITF), the Citizens Assisting Police (CAP’s) volunteers, and the Police Explorer Program.
The Crime Prevention Specialist coordinates the Police Department’s participation in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run, and the annual Project Give-a–Christmas.  This worthwhile project brings the Police Department together with local businesses, schools and residents to help families and children in our Community who are less fortunate than most.

Neighborhood Watch:
Residents interested in helping keep the City of Buena Park safe are encouraged to become involved in the Neighborhood Watch program. Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of residents in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in the community. The Crime Prevention Unit teaches volunteers techniques to protect themselves, their family and their community from crime.

Watch Mail:
Additionally, a value resource to our Community, provided by the Crime Prevention Unit, is Watch Mail.  Watch Mail is a group email information system in which Community members may subscribe to receive Police Department updates and safety information.  The Buena Park Police Department will occasionally send public safety and community relations emails to those who subscribe.  You may sign up by sending an email to lnasman@bppd.com. Your email address will be kept confidential.
