The Investigative Services Bureau consists of detectives and support staff who conduct follow-up investigations on criminal cases and prepare them for presentation to the District Attorney’s Office. Most often, uniform patrol officers are the first to contact victims of crimes. The patrol officers conduct the initial investigation and prepare the reports for follow-up by the Detective Bureau. Detectives are available 24 hours a day in order to provide expertise, guidance, and assistance. On major cases, detectives come in to work during their off-duty hours to handle investigations requiring immediate attention. The Investigative Services Bureau is managed by a lieutenant and consists of 3 sergeants, 18 detectives, 1 police clerk, 1 transcription specialist, 2 civilian investigative aides, and 3 forensic specialists (crime scene investigators). The Detective Bureau is divided into three separate units that focus on specific areas of crime: the Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Crimes Against Property Unit, and the Vice and Narcotics Unit. The Investigative Services Bureau also has four detectives assigned to Orange County Task Forces: the Orange County Auto Theft Task Force (OCATT), the Orange County Methamphetamine Lab Task Force, and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). All four of these detectives work off-site with teams of other detectives from law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County. Email the Investigative Services Bureau. |
