Crimes Persons Unit

The Crimes Persons Unit investigates crimes committed against individuals. This unit consists of seven detectives assigned to the Robbery-Homicide, Sex Crimes, Family Violence, and Missing Persons details.

The crimes investigated by these detectives include homicide, robbery, rape, kidnapping, domestic violence, hate crimes, gang violence, assaults involving deadly weapons, elder abuse, child molestation and abuse, sexual assaults, weapons violations, crimes committed on school grounds, missing persons, court order violations and simple assaults.

The Crimes Persons Unit works closely with detectives from other jurisdictions to track down and identify a wide range of criminal offenders. This unit is often charged with preparing very high-profile cases for prosecution. As a result, this unit has a very close working relationship with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

A detective from the Crimes Persons Unit is assigned to the Orange County Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), which is a specialized FBI anti-terrorism taskforce formed as part of the nation’s homeland security effort.

The Crimes Persons Unit is also staffed with extremely dedicated and hard working support personnel, serving as an investigative aide and secretary for the unit. The aide handles Megan’s Law requests, the tracking of sex registrants within the city, the filing of cases with the district attorney’s office, and providing general assistance with a variety of ongoing investigations. The secretary handles all clerical and data-entry needs within the unit.
