Special Programs
Our Traffic unit conducts a variety of driver-safety campaigns throughout the year.  These programs further enhance the Traffic Unit’s effectiveness.  Many of these programs are funded by grants.

These programs include:
  • “Click-it or Ticket” to encourage the use of seatbelts
  • “Distracted Driver” enforcement to discourage cell phone use while driving
  • DUI checkpoints to educate the public about the dangers of drinking and driving
  • School safety programs to help educate school-age children about the dangers vehicles can present
  • DUI, primary collision factor, and pedestrian safety enforcement

Serious Collision Incident Detail (SCID)
Our SCID team is called in when there is a serious or fatal traffic incident.  They have special training in accident reconstruction which enables the members of the team to complete the investigation and prepare it for potential prosecution.  The SCID team is made up of members throughout the department who have had traffic experience throughout their careers.  This team also utilizes advanced technology in the form of the Total Station.  The Total Station is a surveying device which accurately measures traffic collision scenes and aids the team in reconstructing the incident to scale.
